One of the most common forms of cancer that a
lot of women suffer from is breast cancer. The occurrence of breast cancer in
women is increasing at a rapid rate. Every year, a number of women fall prey to
this deadly cancer because of one reason or the other.
Breast cancer is not limited to a single type.
There are various kinds of breast cancer. According to the cancer hospitals in Delhi, the most common types of breast cancer are
the ductal carcinoma in situ, invasive ductal carcinoma as well as invasive
lobular carcinoma.
The kind of breast cancer that a woman is
suffering from is determined by the way of specific cells that are present in
the breast area. Most numbers of breast cancers are carcinomas in nature. These
are the tumours which begin in the epithelial cells which line the organs as
well as tissues throughout the body. The most common kinds of cancer occur more
rapidly in the women than the uncommon or rare kinds of cancer.
The rare or less common types of breast cancer
begin spreading within the cells of the muscle, fat or sometimes, connective
tissue as well. Cancer hospitals in Delhi have stated that sometimes a single
breast tumour could turn out to be a combination of various types. At the same
time, in some very rare types of breast cancer, the cancer cells might not form
a tumour or lump at all.
Following are considered as different types of cancer:
- Ductal carcinoma in situ:
Ductal carcinoma in situ or DCIS is considered as the earliest form
of breast cancer. This type of cancer occurs when the cancer cells develop
in the ducts of the breast. However, these cells are in situ or contained
but they have not spread themselves into the normal tissues of the breast.
This type of cancer may appear on a mammogram and is generally diagnosed
when the women undergo screening of their breasts.
- Lobular carcinoma in situ:Lobular carcinoma in situ or LCIS is also
addressed as lobular neoplasia. Under this kind of breast cancer, the
cells which look like cancer cells make their way in the lobules of the
milk-producing glands; however, they do not grow through the wall of the
lobules.
- Invasive (infiltrating) breast cancer:The breast cancers which spread into the
surrounding breast tissue are called invasive breast cancer. There are
many types of invasive breast cancer; however, the most common of all is
called the invasive ductal carcinoma and invasive lobular carcinoma. About
one in ten of the invasive breast cancers begin in the lobes of the
breast. This kind of cancer is considered to be difficult to diagnose on
mammogram considering the way it grows. Cancer hospitals in Delhi state
that they are diagnosed on an MRI scan.
- Phyllodes tumour:These tumours are considered as the rare breast tumours and they
develop in the connective tissue of the breast in contrast to the
carcinomas that otherwise develops in the lobules or ducts. Most of these
tumours are benign; however, some of them are malignant as well.
